Reading And Beyond's advocacy initiative is to ensure and promote the inclusion of the most disadvantaged children, particularly those that are classified as English Language Learners (ELL), in having the opportunity to become career and college-ready.

One part of the advocacy initiative is to work with the families of English Language Learners, helping them understand how the school system works and what they must know in order to ensure that their child is receiving the education they need to be career and college-ready.

The other part of the initiative is to work with decision makers at the local school district level to ensure that a system is in place to monitor student placement and academic progress.  Without this close monitoring, students risk becoming Long Term English Learners (LTEL) - students who enroll in the primary grades as ELL and arrive in secondary schools seven or more years later without the English skills needed for academic success.
