California falling behind in

“Race To The Top”

California’s bid for federal funding has been rejected for a second time in the historic “Race To The Top” initiative.  The state was rejected due to a poor “scorecard” as evaluated by federal education officials.

Failing to place in the race illustrates how non-profits like Reading And Beyond are needed now more than ever to support our public school system.

By The Numbers

A Look at English Language Learners in Fresno County

Every school year, thousands of students are classified as English Language Learners (ELL).  Only a small percentage of these students are redesignated as Fluent English Proficient (FEP) by the time they graduate from high school.  Those that are not redesignated are unable to continue their education at a four-year university.
