Reading and Beyond’s Family Success Zone is an innovative initiative that strives to transform Fresno’s poorest zip code through education, job training, and healthy living programs for the whole family. The program includes support and services from cradle to career, beginning with support for pregnant moms, new parents, infants, toddlers, and preschool aged children. For older children we offer after school programs focused on academic support, a summer academy, transitional support for students moving from elementary to middle school and middle school to high school, as well as college preparation. For the adults in the family we provide a GED program, mentoring, conversational English classes, skills assessments, vocational training, and job counseling.
All of this is achieved through the specialized care of our Family Navigators who make monthly home visits with our families. The Family Navigators help families set and maintain goals, as well as connect families with resources to overcome barriers to achieving their goals. They focus these goals on five key areas; education, housing, health, employment, and transportation. Research-based best practices, collaboration, and long-term commitments enable our families to experience lasting changes in their quality of life and health outcomes.
