K12 - Before and After School

For 19 years, Reading and Beyond has provided innovative, research based and effective learning solutions for primary education that meet the needs of individual students. Our afterschool programs create engaging and interactive learning activities for children at a variety of school and community sites.

Afterschool Education and Safety Program (ASES)

Through a long standing relationship with Fresno Unified and the California Department of Education, Reading and Beyond has established several afterschool programs at Fresno elementary schools. These programs offer academic assistance that includes literacy tutoring, homework support in core subjects, such as language arts, mathematics, history, social science, and science. The assistance program is aligned to California's academic standards, and supports curriculum taught during the regular school day. The program begins immediately after the regular school day and runs until at least 6:00 p.m.

With more than a decade of experience in administering the Afterschool Education and Saftety Program (ASES), Reading and Beyond has an excellent track record of successful program implementation.

Community Sites

Our community sites bring our award winning afterschool programming directly to children living in low-income neighborhoods. They serve as resource centers for nearby children and families. Our staff of well-trained literacy tutors are knowledgeable about current research on effective reading strategies. These tutors assist students in a small-group setting to complete their homework and improve their reading level. We assess our students every 3 months with the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) to guide the tutors on the individual needs of the students. We also evaluate our program on a regular basis and make changes to ensure the students timely progress.
