School Success

After School Programs

Reading and Beyond’s after school program provides innovative, research-based and  effective learning solutions for children who are struggling with literacy and being able to read at grade level or higher. The After School Program operates year-round and provides a summer session to promote mitigation of summer learning loss.

The program focuses on three key areas:

  • STEAM Enrichment Activities: The program offers engaging hands-on activities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to foster creativity and critical thinking.
  • Literacy and Homework Support: Students receive assistance with reading, writing, and completing homework, ensuring they stay on track academically.
  • Exercise and Physical Activity: Daily fitness sessions promote health and well-being through structured physical activities and games.

Volunteers and local college work study students from Fresno State work with the children in small groups to improve their literacy and language skills. This allows us to operate at relatively low cost with a high impact return. All of our tutors and instructors are trained to provide the most effective strategies to improve the reading skills of the students. Our program operates at the Mosqueda Community Center, an area with concentrated generational poverty.

Youth and Family Strong

The Youth and Family Strong (YFS) program is focused on supporting youth ages 15–18 who are involved with the Juvenile Justice System or are at-risk of entering the system. The program employs a trauma-healing approach, fostering leadership skills and enhancing their belief in themselves through the Joven Noble leadership curriculum, educational workshops, job readiness, individualized case management, and mentorship.
